Gates of Olympus 1000: the short verdict
Gates of Olympus 1000 keeps everything that made the original popular and makes the top end much bigger: multiplier orbs reach 1,000x instead of 500x and the cap triples to 15,000x. The trade-off is a High volatility label, so dry runs are longer and the free spins carry most of the value. With a 96.50% RTP and both ante and buy options, it is a strong pick for players who accept big swings.

The Gates of Olympus 1000 slot is Pragmatic Play's December 2023 upgrade of its 2021 Zeus game: the same 6-reel, 5-row grid where eight or more matching symbols pay anywhere, with multiplier orbs that now climb as high as 1,000x. You can play it free in the demo above, in C$ play money, before deciding whether it suits your budget.
This Gates of Olympus 1000 review sticks to the provider's own numbers. Below we cover how tumbles and multipliers combine, how the 15 free spins build a running total, what the 96.50% RTP and 15,000x max win mean in dollars, when the ante bet or the 100x buy is worth thinking about, and how this version stacks up against the original, Super Scatter and 2500 editions in our catalogue.
What is Gates of Olympus 1000?
It is a scatter-pays video slot with a Greek-myth theme, built by Pragmatic Play and released in December 2023. Zeus is the scatter, and multiplier symbols (called orbs on this page) can land on the reels. The "1000" in the name refers to the top multiplier value: in the original game the orbs stop at 500x, here they reach 1,000x.
Little else changed. The symbols are a crown, an hourglass, a ring, a chalice and five coloured gems, and the 15-spin bonus, the 1.25x ante bet and the 100x buy price all match the 2021 game. What moved is the maths around the edges: the volatility label rose from Medium to High, and the max win went from 5,000x to 15,000x.
- Grid: 6 reels, 5 rows, no paylines
- Win rule: 8 or more of the same symbol anywhere on screen
- Bets: C$0.20 to C$240 base stake in the demo, up to C$300 with the ante bet
- Extras: ante bet and a 100x bonus buy, where the casino's market allows them
How a spin plays out: tumbles and multiplier orbs
A spin starts by dropping 30 symbols. If eight or more of one kind are visible, they pay and vanish, and new symbols fall from above to fill the gaps. That is a tumble. It repeats as long as new wins form, so one paid spin can produce a chain of wins.
Where the multipliers come in
Multiplier symbols can land on any spin or tumble, in the base game as well as the free spins, carrying a random value between 2x and 1,000x. They wait until the tumble chain ends. Then every multiplier on screen is added together and the sum is applied to the total win of that chain.
A worked example: a chain of tumbles pays 4x your stake in total, and two orbs showing 10x and 25x are on the grid. The orbs add up to 35x, so the chain pays 4 x 35 = 140x the stake, or C$140 on a C$1 spin. If no win forms, the orbs pay nothing, which is why many spins with a big orb on screen still end at zero.
Three pay tiers per symbol
Each symbol pays at three levels: 8-9 matching, 10-11 matching, and 12 or more. The jump between tiers is steep for the premium symbols. Eight to nine crowns return 10x the bet, while twelve or more return 50x. For the blue gem, the lowest symbol, the same tiers pay 0.25x, 0.75x and 2x. Most base-game wins come from the gems, which is why orbs landing on a small gem win often add only a modest amount.
Free spins and the running total multiplier
Four or more Zeus scatters anywhere award 15 free spins. The scatters also pay on the trigger spin: 3x for four, 5x for five and 100x your stake for six. During the round, three or more scatters add five more spins, so a lucky round can run well past its starting 15.
Why the bonus is where the game lives
In free spins the multipliers stop resetting. Any orb that lands on a winning spin joins a running total, and that total keeps applying to later winning spins for the rest of the round. Early orbs therefore matter twice: once for the spin they land on and again for every win after it.
| Moment in the round | Orbs on a winning spin | Running total after |
|---|---|---|
| Spin 3 | 5x | 5x |
| Spin 7 | 10x + 2x | 17x |
| Spin 12 | 50x | 67x |
The table is an illustration of the rule, not a typical round. Many rounds collect only a few small orbs, and some collect none at all.
Gates of Olympus 1000 RTP, volatility and max win
The provider publishes a Gates of Olympus 1000 RTP of 96.50% for the standard game, 96.50% with the ante bet and 96.49% when you buy the free spins. Over a very large number of spins that means about C$96.50 back for every C$100 staked, with C$3.50 kept by the game. Individual sessions can land far from that figure in either direction. Casinos may also run a lower-RTP version, so check the game's info panel before you play.
High volatility, in plain terms
The in-game rules label this edition High, one step above the original's Medium. Expect more spins that return nothing, a base game that mostly trickles, and a result that depends heavily on whether a bonus collects large orbs. It suits a larger balance relative to the stake.
Gates of Olympus 1000 max win in C$
Wins are capped at 15,000x the stake. The arithmetic:
| Base stake | Max win (15,000x) |
|---|---|
| C$0.20 | C$3,000 |
| C$1 | C$15,000 |
| C$2 | C$30,000 |
| C$10 | C$150,000 |
Reaching the cap is a rare outcome. For a fuller explanation of these terms, see RTP and volatility explained.
Ante bet or bonus buy?
The game offers two ways to change how often you see free spins. They cannot be combined: switching on the ante bet disables the buy.
| Option | Cost on a C$1 base bet | What it does | Published RTP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard spin | C$1.00 per spin | Normal trigger chance | 96.50% |
| Ante bet | C$1.25 per spin | Doubles the natural chance of free spins | 96.50% |
| Buy Free Spins | C$100 once | Next spin lands 4 scatters and starts the bonus | 96.49% |
Because the RTP is almost identical across the three, none of them is a hidden edge. The ante bet trades a 25% higher stake for more frequent bonuses. The buy turns a session into a few large, very swingy bets: a single bought round can return far less than its C$100 cost. Some regulated markets remove the buy entirely, so it may not appear at every casino.

Gates of Olympus 1000 free play: using the demo
If you want to play Gates of Olympus 1000 free, the demo on this page is the official Pragmatic version. It loads with a C$ balance of play money, needs no sign-up, and runs the same rules and paytable as the paid game. Searches like "Gates of Olympus 1000 free slot" usually lead to exactly this kind of demo.
What the demo is good for
- Seeing how often tumbles chain and how rarely orbs land on a winning spin in the base game.
- Testing the ante bet against standard spins at the same base stake.
- Trying the bonus buy, if your demo build shows it, to watch the running total multiplier at work.
The limits are real ones: demo credit cannot be withdrawn, and a lucky demo session tells you nothing about the next real one. Use it to judge pace and swing, then decide on a budget.
Bankroll habits for a high-volatility Zeus slot
No betting system changes the 96.50% or the High volatility. What helps is matching your stake to the swings so a long quiet stretch does not end the session early.
- Divide before you spin. For a game this streaky, a balance of 200 or more base stakes gives the free spins a fair chance to show up. With C$100, that means about C$0.50 per spin.
- Price the ante properly. At C$0.50 base, the ante bet costs C$0.625 per spin, so 200 spins become 160. Decide whether more frequent bonuses are worth fewer spins.
- Count a buy as a session of its own. A 100x buy at C$0.50 base costs C$50. If that is half your budget, it is too big.
- Stop on a number. Set both a loss limit and a win target before you start, and stick to them.
Zeus does not owe you a bonus. Slots are entertainment you pay for, and the house edge never switches off; if playing stops being fun, take a break.
Playing it in Canada: legality, age and mobile
Canadian players can use the free demo anywhere. For real money, the rules depend on the province. Ontario has an open, regulated market: operators are registered with the AGCO and operate through iGaming Ontario, and you must be 19. Alberta opened its own regulated market on 13 July 2026, with operators registered with AGLC. In the other provinces, the province's own online casino is the locally regulated choice. The minimum age is 19, or 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec.
Before you deposit, look for the regulator's name in the site footer, compare the RTP in the game's info panel with the 96.50% published by Pragmatic, and set deposit limits from the first day. More on provincial rules is in playing in Canada.
Phones and tablets
The game loads in the browser, the same way the demo does here, so a casino's mobile site or app runs it without a separate download. A 6x5 grid with falling symbols is busier than a classic slot, so on a small phone it pays to play a few demo rounds first and get used to reading the tumble chains and the orb values before staking C$.
Who the Gates of Olympus 1000 slot suits
This edition is built for players who are comfortable with a lot of empty spins in exchange for a higher ceiling. It fits well if you:
- already enjoy the original and want the same rules with bigger multipliers;
- can set aside a balance of a few hundred base stakes for one session;
- like a bonus round that can build over time rather than one that pays all at once.
It is a weaker fit if you want frequent small wins to stretch a short budget, or if you prefer clear paylines to a grid where wins can form anywhere. In that case the Medium-rated original, or a classic line slot such as Big Bass Bonanza, will feel calmer. There is no skill element either way: the choice is about how much swing you are happy to pay for as entertainment.
Reading a session honestly
Because so much of the value sits in rare, large bonus rounds, short sessions on this game nearly always finish below the published RTP, and a few finish far above it. Neither result says anything about the next session. Judge the game on whether the pace suits you, not on one evening's balance.
Gates of Olympus 1000 vs the original and the other Zeus editions
Pragmatic now has several versions of this game, and four of them are in our catalogue. They share the grid and the tumble rules; they differ in how high the multipliers go and what extra features sit on top.
| Game | Released | Volatility | Multipliers | Max win |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gates of Olympus | 2021 | Medium | 2x-500x | 5,000x |
| Gates of Olympus 1000 | 2023 | High | 2x-1,000x | 15,000x |
| Gates of Olympus Super Scatter | 2025 | Medium | 2x-500x | 50,000x |
| Gates of Olympus 2500 | 2026 | High | 2x-2,500x | 25,000x |
The 1000 edition is the middle ground: a clear step up from the original without the long list of ante levels, super spins and buy tiers that the 2500 version adds. Super Scatter takes a different route, with special scatters that can pay up to 50,000x the base bet. If you like the 1000-style multipliers in a different setting, Starlight Princess 1000 uses the same grid and 2x-1,000x orbs with a progressive multiplier in free spins. What works and what does not
Pros
- Multiplier orbs up to 1,000x, double the original's 500x ceiling
- 15,000x max win, three times the 2021 game's cap
- RTP stays at 96.50% for standard play and the ante bet
- Running total multiplier makes early bonus orbs count for the whole round
- Familiar rules - anyone who knows the original can play it straight away
Cons
- High volatility means long stretches with small or no wins
- Base-game orbs only pay when a win forms, so many go to waste
- The 100x bonus buy is a big single bet and is missing in some markets
- Theme and symbols are almost unchanged from the 2021 version
How the feature works
Four or more Zeus scatters anywhere start 15 free spins and pay 3x, 5x or 100x the stake for four, five or six. In the round, multiplier symbols worth 2x to 1,000x that land on a winning spin are added to a running total, and that total applies to every later winning spin. Three or more scatters during the round add five spins. The bonus can also be bought for 100x the bet, in which case the trigger spin always lands four scatters.
